SLAC-FUB-1633 August 1975 (T/E) NUCLEONNUMBERDEFENDENCE OF LARGE TRANSVERSE MOMENTUM REACTIONS AND MULTIPLE SCATTERING*

چکیده

We examine the effect of multiple scattering on large transverse momentum reactions in a simple hard scattering model. It is shown that the measured A dependence can be explained under assumptions on the hard scattering component, which are consistent with experiment. We comment on the effect of Fermi motion. Impact of Various Beam Parameters on Lateral Scattering in Proton and Carbon-ion Therapy

Background: In radiation therapy with ion beams, lateral distributions of absorbed dose in the tissue are important. Heavy ion therapy, such as carbon-ion therapy, is a novel technique of high-precision external radiotherapy which has advantages over proton therapy in terms of dose locality and biological effectiveness. Methods: In this study, we used Monte Carlo method-based Geant4 toolkit to s...

Meson Exchange Currents in Kaon Scattering on the Lightest Nuclei

The K + scattering on the lightest nuclei, d, 3 He and 4 He is studied in the framework of multiple scattering theory. Effects from MEC tied to the K + N → KN π reaction are evaluated. We found that at momentum transfers Q 2 < 0.5 (GeV/c) 2 contributions from MEC are much smaller than kaon rescattering corrections. This makes the conventional multiple scattering picture a reliable tool to study...

A relativistic finite nucleus calculation using a Dirac optical potential is used to investigate the importance of final state interactions [FSI] at large momentum transfers in inclusive quasielastic electronuclear reactions. The optical potential is derived from first-order multiple scattering theory and then is used to calculate the FSI in a nonspectral Green's function doorway approach. At i...

Multiparton Tomography of Hot and Cold Nuclear Matter

Multiple parton interactions in relativistic heavy ion reactions result in transverse momentum diffusion and medium induced non-Abelian energy loss of the hard probes traversing cold and hot nuclear matter. A systematic study of the interplay of nuclear effects on the pT ≥ 2 GeV inclusive hadron spectra demonstrates that the competition between nuclear shadowing, multiple scattering and jet que...

The quasi - elastic nuclear response

We explore the nuclear responses at intermediate energies, particularly in the spin longitudinal σ · q and spin transverse σ × q isovector channels, within the continuum random phase approximation framework. We also employ an extension of the standard random phase approximation to account for the spreading width of the single particle states through the inclusion of a complex and energy-depende...
